Welcome to Our Guesthouse in a Former Elementary School

This guesthouse is located in Shimoichi Town, Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, and was originally Hirohashi Elementary School, founded in 1874 (Meiji 7).
During the town’s flourishing forestry era, more than 100 children once studied here. However, with the changing times, the school closed its doors in 1999, bringing its long history to a close.

Fortunately, this precious wooden school building was not demolished, but carefully preserved by the local community. Even today, it serves as a place for community gatherings—hosting children’s events and ground golf for seniors.

In 2022, a house next to the school that once accommodated teachers was reborn as a guesthouse surrounded by nature.
Perched at the top of the Hirohashi Pass and embraced by scenic mountains and the famous Hirohashi Plum Grove, it offers a peaceful retreat where you can spend a special moment away from everyday life.

By the way, the name “Twilight” was inspired by a line in a book by the local poet Mae Toshio, who described the twilight seen from this place as exceptionally beautiful.
The view of the twilight from the schoolyard is truly breathtaking.

A traveler passing through the Hirohashi Pass may find themselves softly exclaiming in awe as they gaze out the bus window.
The ridgeline stretching from Mt. Kongō to Mt. Katsuragi is truly magnificent.
...
To live in a place blessed with such vast open views, people say, would surely lead to a generous heart—and perhaps even a long life.
Seeing such expansive scenery every day naturally broadens one’s perspective, helping to cultivate a clear and farsighted way of seeing the world.
And if it doesn’t, one might almost feel unworthy of the landscape.
